LSA is eastern Iowa’s premier LGBTQ+ Softball League and was founded in April 2018. LSA is a non-profit 501(c)3 and is committed to providing opportunity and a safe space where both LGBT and Non-LGBT participants can compete in an environment welcoming and open to the LGBTQ+ community. Participants must be 18+ and pay league fees for each season. Games are played Sunday Mornings from 10:00am-1:00pm at either the Hawkeye Softball Complex or Mercer Park in Iowa City. We have 2 seasons (Spring/Summer and Fall) that run from late April to late October. If you would like to join please come out to one of our Recruitment & Skills Days!
See you at the ball field!
This Sunday 7/18 is the final week for our LSA Spring/Summer season!
Just 2 games Sunday - first off we have our D division game at 10:00am between Mayhem and GBU (The Good The Bat The Ugly. Then at 11:00am our E division game between Sit On My Base and Pitches Be Crazy.
Then after the games, we would like everyone to head over to Shakespeare's for some tasty beverages, lunch, and camaraderie!
If you have not yet downloaded the SportsEngine app, we would highly recommend it. You can see everything there including schedule, scores, your team's roster, etc. There is also a feature that allows your team coach to post messages and send messages to everyone on the roster.
Our core mission is providing our members a fun atmosphere and a safe space where both LGBT and Non-LGBT participants can compete in an environment welcoming and open to the LGBTQ+ community. LSA will continue to be a safe space for everyone and be a shining example of #nohate.
Along with Fun and Inclusion, Safety is always a top priority. Therefore we still respect everyone's personal choice to wear a mask and socially distance. Of course washing our hands frequently should be something that never loses it's cool.
Mayor Bruce Teague has lifted the local mask mandate, but stresses that those who are not vaccinated from COVID-19 should continue to wear masks in public and adhere to social distancing recommendations.
Lifting of the local mandate comes after the latest CDC guidance announcing that those vaccinated do not need to wear masks when out in public.
See you all Sunday at Mercer Park, we are able to get on the field to warm up and practice as early as 9:00am.
Planning for our Fall season is coming along nicely - we really hope that everyone is able to come back and play again this fall.
Just like Spring/Summer, the games will be Sunday mornings starting at 10:00am and all Fall games will be played at Mercer Park.
Tentative start date will be Sunday 9/12 and we will have 6 weeks of games, ending on Sunday 10/24 (no games on Sunday 9/19).
The Fall Registration will be available in the next week or two, please watch the website here and our Facebook pages for updates.
Player fees havenot been determined yet, however it will not be more than $5.00 per week at the most.
If you have friends or acquaintances who have thought about joining us and giving softball a try, the Fall league is a great time for them to do so. Fall ball is a little more laid back and our board members and experienced players are always willing to teach and coach if we have beginners that need a little help.
Please feel free to shoot me an email or a DM if you have any questions at all.
