LSA is eastern Iowa’s premier LGBTQ+ Softball League and was founded in April 2018. LSA is a non-profit 501(c)3 and is committed to providing opportunity and a safe space where both LGBT and Non-LGBT participants can compete in an environment welcoming and open to the LGBTQ+ community. Participants must be 18+ and pay league fees for each season. Games are played Sunday Mornings from 10:00am-1:00pm at either the Hawkeye Softball Complex or Mercer Park in Iowa City. We have 2 seasons (Spring/Summer and Fall) that run from late April to late October. If you would like to join please come out to one of our Recruitment & Skills Days!
See you at the ball field!
Tuesday 4.13.21: THANK YOU!
I just wanted to post a quick note to thank everyone who stopped by to see us and sign up for softball this past Sunday, in spite of the chilly and damp weather.
The turnout of 20+ people in those conditions, and knowing that we would not be able to get on the field, was so exciting and inspiring. We had visitors from as far away as Independence and Dubuque. We welcome and encourage players from all over Eastern Iowa to join us!
We will be back at Mercer Park again this Sunday and we hope that the weather will be a bit more cooperative so we can get on the ballfield and have some fun! Please scroll down the page for more details.
Lastly, a special thanks goes out to my fellow board members for being there Sunday, and for all of their dedication and hard work. Their tireless efforts are laser focused on making sure that LSA is able to provide the lgbtq community of Eastern Iowa the most enjoyable, rewarding, and safest experience possible - athletically and socially!
LSA Softball is here!
We are little more than a month away from the start of our Spring/Summer 2021 season - keep reading for some exciting updates!
Recruitment & Skills Day #2 - This Sunday 4/18. We will be at Mercer Park in Iowa City, on Field 4 from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm.
We strongly encourage all players (returning and new) to attend 1 of the recruitment & skills sessions, so if you were unable to make it this past Sunday 4/11, clear an hour or two in your weekend and stop out to see us!
During these recruitment & skills sessions, you will have a chance to go through some softball drills and meet some league members. These sessions also allow the coaches and board members to assist with placing players on teams, with the goal of maintaining similar experience and skill levels on each team - thus achieving a competitive balance within the league.
We're Still Looking for Coaches… If you have played softball, or even baseball, and would like the opportunity to coach/manage one of the teams please let us know! We are always looking for new coaches, especially as we expand our league to include multiple divisions.
Non-Players - If you are interested in being involved in the league but aren’t quite sure you are ready to play just yet, we would still love to have you! Please come to one or both of the recruitment & skills days. We’re looking for assistant coaches and scorekeepers. And if you’ve never played before we’ll teach you the game and you’ll pick it up before you know it! We would also love to have some non-playing members who are interested in helping in other areas including recruitment, fundraising & sponsorships, social events, publicity, and our digital presence (website, social media, etc.).
How you can help - Registration is off to a great start but we can always use your help with word of mouth advertising. Talk it up, tell your friends, Like and Share our Facebook page and the link to our website.
Whether you have played in the past, or plan to play for the first time in 2021, why not bring a friend or two? There’s nothing better than participating with old friends, while making new ones too. Fun, Fitness & Friends.
Please go to the registration tab and sign up so we have your contact information, and we have an idea of the number of possible participants. Please note when choosing “D” or “E” is shows the registration fee of $40, continue through the registration and there will be an option to “pay when league begins”. We will collect the league fees from playing members between the recruitment & skills days, and opening day for league play. We are also currently exploring options to try and reduce that player fee if possible.

EVENT: SUNDAY 4/18 - LSA board members will be at Mercer Park from 12noon to 2:00pm - please stop out and say Hi - we are so excited to see everyone's faces, new and old. We'll answer any questions and have everything you need to get you signed up!
We hope to get out on the field this time, for some light warm up and softball drills. Break out your glove, warm up your throwing arm, and stretch those legs!
We strongly encourage all players (returning and new) to attend at least 1 of the recruitment & skills sessions, and if you are a softball lover like many of us, you are welcome to attend both.
If you are interested in being involved in the league but aren’t quite sure you are ready to play just yet, we would still love to have you! Please be sure to join us on Sunday and let us know what you have an interest in helping with.
We would like to give a special thank you to one of our sponsors, Shakespeare's Pub and Grill. They have supported us since the beginning of the league in 2017 and supported us throughout 2020 when we had to cancel our season. Please consider supporting this great, local restaurant.
A special thank you to Green State Credit Union for sponsoring our spring 2021 season. Your support helps strengthen the LGBT community in Eastern Iowa!
